Tribute to the Great Civilisations

A Dialogue with history

Four Civilisations in the Spotlight

Where time becomes memory

At Watches and Wonders 2026, Vacheron Constantin continues its exploration of history through a new chapter of its partnership with the Louvre. The Métiers d'Art Tribute to Great Civilisations collection celebrates four masterpieces, transforming heritage into horological expression.

Exploration, here, becomes transmission.

From Masterpiece to Timepiece

Four civilisations,
interpreted through craft

Vacheron Constantin opens a new chapter in its Métiers d'Art – Tribute to Great Civilisations watch collection, born from a partnership with the Louvre Museum. The first series of four watches was launched in 2022 and now, the Maison presents four new timepieces that express the spirit of cultural exploration that lies deep in its soul. In close collaboration with the museum's curators, major works from its Antiquities Department have been selected in honour of Pharaonic Egypt, the Assyrian Empire, Ancient Greece and Imperial Rome.

Cultural Exploration

When time engages with civilisations

A Dialogue with the Louvre

From masterpiece to timepiece

Four Vacheron Constantin watches inspired by the spirit of exploring different cultures.

Developed over three years, including a full year dedicated solely to thematic research, the Tribute to Great Civilisations series was created in close collaboration with the department heads of the Louvre. The new watches celebrate the museum's ancient masterpieces and related decorative arts, with great attention paid to historical accuracy. The creation of the watch dials took into account certain crafts and materials used for the original works – particularly stones of the same quality or even the same origin.

The artistic crafts highlighted in these watches exemplify Vacheron Constantin's commitment to perpetuating traditional artistic savoir-faire, which is also highlighted by the works in the Louvre's collections. This approach ensures historical coherence as much as artistic refinement.

Exploration here becomes both rigorous and creative.

Artistry Without Compromise

Miniaturising civilisations

The image shows the engraving process.

The creation of each dial requires the convergence of engraving, micro-mosaic, enamel, marquetry and glyptics, a carving technique consisting of engraving or sculpting hard materials such as stone, crystal or gemstones to create designs either carved in intaglio or in relief. The selection of stones, identical in nature and/or origin to those used in the Louvre works, required extensive research.

This original approach to watchmaking is further enhanced by the appliques surrounding the four central figures and the peripheral friezes. These latter elements of the dials were the subject of in-depth research conducted in collaboration with the Louvre experts to ensure respect for the traditional ornamentation of the four chosen civilisations. Subtle variations in material and shade make every piece singular, even within limited editions of fifteen.
