Introduced by the Republic and Canton of Geneva in 1886 as the ultimate standard in excellence and an emblem of Geneva’s fine watchmaking expertise, the Poinçon de Genève or Hallmark of Geneva, is synonymous with provenance, quality craftsmanship and reliability.
A true icon of the 1970s, the 37 mm ‘Jumbo’ 222 is a contemporary reissue of the historic model. With its monobloc tonneau-shaped case topped with a grooved bezel, this timepiece with integrated strap continues to showcase its robust, functional, and sporty spirit with timeless elegance, thanks to the purity of its lines and finesse of its curvature. The case is decorated with a Maltese cross at 5 o'clock and has an open caseback, allowing the caliber to be admired in full view with an oscillating weight specially redesigned for this model.
A contemporary reissue
With the Historiques 222 in 18K 3N yellow gold, Vacheron Constantin offers an updated interpretation of the legendary "Jumbo." Optimising reliability and ergonomic comfort thanks to the latest technical advances, this iteration shares the relaxed elegance of its predecessor.
The codes emblematic of the 222 are scrupulously respected: 37 mm diameter, fluted bezel, gold-tone dial, straight hour-markers and baton-type hands. Likewise present are the integrated bracelet with hexagonal central links and a Maltese cross in polished Pd150 white gold, soldered to the flat table of the case at 5 o'clock. Changes are largely subtle and functional, as witness the Calibre 2455/2 delivering enhanced precision.
