Cornes de vache 1955 5000H/000A-B582
Introduced by the Republic and Canton of Geneva in 1886 as the ultimate standard in excellence and an emblem of Geneva’s fine watchmaking expertise, the Poinçon de Genève or Hallmark of Geneva, is synonymous with provenance, quality craftsmanship and reliability.
This watch in steel pays tribute to the legendary and assertive “cow horns” that adorned the 1955 manual-winding chronograph, reference 6087, the first water-resistant chronograph manufactured by Vacheron Constantin. Painted on the dial, the tachymeter scale makes it possible to determine an average speed thanks to the central hand of the chronograph. Rare and authentic, its calfskin-leather strap was developed by Serapian, a Maison from Milan dear to Vacheron Constantin.
The revival of iconic pieces
Paying tribute to fine watchmaking’s finest moments and revisiting the creative archetypes that have punctuated the Manufacture’s history since 1755, such are the designs of this extraordinary collection. For more than thirty years, Historiques timepieces have revived the icons of Vacheron Constantin’s technical and aesthetic heritage.
Knowing the time while keeping your hands on the wheel or while captivating an audience with an impassioned speech is the most remarkable feature of this diagonal watch. This highly original display – made possible via a counter-clockwise 45-degree rotation of the movement – was created by Vacheron Constantin in the 1920s for a automobile-loving American customer. Extravagance and exacting standards become one.
An integral part of the Maison's signature, the creative work associated with lugs in the Historiques collection cannot be ignored. How a simple detail is enhanced and brought to the forefront. Cow's horns, water droplets, crab pincers or claws... four interpretations of the same function, offering each timepiece an assertive personality.
