Minute repeater watches

Invented in the 18th century to tell the time in the dark, this ingenious mechanism chimes to indicate the time. By simply pressing the button on the middle, the hammers strike the gongs: the low tones give the hours, the high tones give the minutes and alternating tones give quarter hours. A real mechanical orchestra, the minute repeater is one of the most technical complications in Fine Watchmaking.
