About this watch

1994 marked the 400th anniversary of the death of the Flemish mathematician and geographer Gerhard Mercator (1512-1594), inventor of map projections similar to ones used to this day. Vacheron Constantin opted to commemorate this by issuing a series of watches dedicated to the Flemish scientist.

About the caliber

Directly inspired by the double retrograde hands of the "Bras-en-l'Air" models, for which the Maison's wristwatches were renowned during the 1930s. The extra-flat self-winding Caliber 1120 powers this bi-retrograde hours and minutes display with hands in the shape of a compass arm. One of the thinnest ever produced, this reference movement is stamped with the Hallmark of Geneva, a guarantee of the highest standards of craftsmanship.
