"Eternal Connections:
Metalworks Unveiled"

Since its founding in 1755, Vacheron Constantin has devoted great importance to art and culture, in safeguarding heritage and in passing on of know-how and craftsmanship. The Maison partners with a local non-profit charitable foundation, Crafts on Peel Hong Kong, this year for a year-long artistic and cultural partnership to preserve, perpetuate and innovate local traditional crafts in Hong Kong.

From June 29 to August 3, "Eternal Connections: Metalworks Unveiled" exhibition will showcase exciting new artworks created by traditional casting craftsman Master Liu Wing Sheung, and his apprentice, Fanson Lam, an aspiring contemporary sculptor, in a poetic journey to highlight their profound bonding between generations and their inspiring artisanship where imagination and materialization intertwine.

A cast bronze sculpture symbolizes a serendipitous encounter of twelve years, where a master-apprentice bond has been endured through time. The two have experienced ups and downs, and their laughter and tears are intertwined.

The artwork shows six pairs of intertwined hands, crafted by bronze, each pair representing a “master-and-apprentice” collaboration: One hand belongs to Master Liu, the other to Fanson. They walked hand-in-hand, a testament to the cyclical nature of time, witnessing the passage of years and the growth of each other's craft techniques.

This metalwork is a proof that Master Liu is deeply inspired by the natural world, and he seeks to share its blessings through craftsmanship. Cypress, a symbol of resilience weathered by time in the face of adversity, is captured in bronze. Its strength amplified, ensuring its resilience and timeless legacy.

An  incense burner masterfully integrated with the beauty of bonsai artistry and the ancient mythical creature of dragon, reminds us to respect the natural world and cherish the precious gift of time. Both an aesthetic presentation and a starting point for philosophical exploration, the artwork delves into the mysteries of life and time for enlightenment through self-reflection.
