About this watch

The Royal Chronometer range was launched in 1907 when Vacheron Constantin, whose watches regularly won awards in chronometry competitions, decided to apply the same quality of movement to its standard-production watches.

A new milestone was reached in 1953, when the same level of precision was achieved for wristwatches. From then on, the Manufacture offered its Royal Chronometer in several case shapes, first with the hand-wound 1007/1008BS movement, then with Caliber K1072/1.

About the caliber

The movement K1072/1 was Vacheron Constantin's first automatic chronometer caliber, It appeared in 1959 and remained in production until the range was discontinued in the late 1970s. Even today, this caliber is considered a masterpiece in its category, double-stamped with the Hallmark of Geneva. It features a variable inertia balance (Gyromax) and a mobile piton holder for fine adjustment of the mechanism. The finish is equally meticulous, with a circular segment rotor in 18K gold with delicate barley-grain guilloché.
