Patronage and Cultural Partnerships

Opéra national de Paris

Vacheron Constantin has been a patron of the Opéra national de Paris since 2007, and shares with this institution the art of precision, renewal and wonder: an art whose mastery, both technical and esthetic, is orchestrated by myriad trades. So, the first years of our commitment serve to ensure the long life of the Art Workshops and to support the Opéra national de Paris’ productions. In both watchmaking and the Opera, accomplishment is a human story, rich in expertise that is perpetuated and shared.

Ensuring the sustainability of the Art Workshops and support the Opéra de Paris’ productions.

Key dates in our patronage:

October 2007:

Vacheron Constantin gave to the Opéra national de Paris a monumental clock called “Laudator Temporis”. This work composed of 56 hand-blown colored glass panels was designed by the Neufchatel artist and painter Ivan Moscatelli and constructed by master glassworker Werner Weyhe. The clock is currently on display at the Opéra Bastille.

December 2008:

Vacheron Constantin received several hundred guests at the Opéra Bastille for the premiere of “Hommage à Maurice Béjart”. The manufacture is proud to have this opportunity to honor the memory and talent of this exceptional dancer and choreographer who revolutionized dance in the 20th century. The movement lies at the heart of a clock and movement is also the centre of the choreographies of Maurice Béjart who said: “Thought is movement. A ballet is actually a thought structure. Music is thought made audible, and dance is thought made visible…”

November 2010:

To celebrate its 30th anniversary, the AROP (Friends of the Paris Opera and Ballet) organized a grand gala evening at the Palais Garnier with the support of Vacheron Constantin. On this occasion, the manufacture put its craftsmen to work to create a unique piece that reproduced in its entirety the over 2100 square feet and more than 180 characters of Chagall’s ceiling using the ancestral Geneva technique of miniature “grand feu” enamel painting. This clock, entitled “Tribute to illustrious composers” is the first in the Métiers d’Art collection - Chagall and the Opéra de Paris.

2011-2012 season:

In February 2012, Vacheron Constantin sponsored the “Dîner des Etoiles” organized by the AROP (Friends of the Paris Opera and Ballet ) at the Palais Garnier, in order to support the return of the Paris Opera Ballet to the United States after a ten year absence.

Twenty-five exceptional performances are scheduled in Chicago, Washington and New York for the months of June and July 2012.

April 2013:

Guests of the Geneva-based watchmaker were among some 2,000 people in the Palais Garnier ornately decorated with thousands of flowers for the gala celebrating the 300th anniversary of the “Ecole française de danse.” They were entertained by a unique performance that brought together young dancers from the school with stars of the “Ballet de l’Opéra national de Paris".

Excellence was the order of the day with Le Palais de Cristal and Daphnis & Chloé, bringing together four big names: George Balanchine, Benjamin Millepied, Christian Lacroix et Daniel Buren. Grand première: at the end of the show, the some 400 guests were treated to a gala dinner on the stage of the Opéra Bastille.
