CELEBRATING MUSIC WITH OSR IN JAPAN

Since 2008, Vacheron Constantin has been one of the primary partners of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande (Orchestra of french-speaking Switzerland). In celebration of this partnership with OSR, Vacheron Constantin was honored to welcome their Japan tour, accompanying the 150th anniversary of the diplomatic relationships between Japan and Switzerland.  On July 8th 2014 at Tokyo Suntory Hall, Vacheron Constantin partnered with Pictet Asset Management to host an OSR concert, conducted by its principal guest conductor Maestro Kazuki Yamada.

Welcomed by Vincent Gouget, Vacheron Constantin Japan Brand Director, Mr. Takuhide Hagino, CEO of Pictet Asset Management, and Mr. Henk Swinnen, General Manager of OSR, the evening opened with a welcome party at Blue Rose.  The guests were also drawn to the art of watchmaking excellence with the magnificent timepieces from Vacheron Constantin’s latest novelties Métiers d'Art Mécaniques Ajourées collection.

It was then followed by a concert with Maestro Kazuki Yamada, named as official cultural ambassador for this event, as well as Japanese violinist Daishin Kashimoto who performed to a full house.  Kazuki Yamada was the laureate of the International Young Conductors Competition in Besançon in 2009. He first conducted the OSR in 2010, where he earned the admiration of the musicians and the audience. Daishin Kashimoto has won a number of other awards, including the first prize in the 6th Menuhin Competition in 1993, at the age of 14. He has performed as a soloist under the baton of great conductors such as Mariss Jansons, Lorin Maazel and Yuri Temirkanov , playingon a  1722 “Jupiter” Stradivarius loaned to him by the Nippon Music Foundation.

The audience was delighted with the world premiere of Rare Gravity, composed by Dai Fujikura, followed byViolin Concerto in D major, Op.35 by P.I. Tchaikovsky and Symphonie fantastique, Op.14 by Berlioz.

After the concert, the evening continued to a private reception where the musicians were welcomed by Julien Marchenoir, Brand Equity and Heritage Director of Vacheron Constantin, and Mr. Edgar Doerig, Minister and Deputy Head of Mission at the Swiss Embassy.
