2008 – Vacheron Constantin supports the Swiss foundation Rheumasearch
Every day, rheumatismal diseases affect people working in the watchmaking industry to varying degrees. Diseases that affect the hand in particular, whether they be degenerative (osteoarthritis) or linked to rheumatoid polyarthritis, can be particularly incapacitating for watchmakers and craftsmen working in watch Manufactures.
Rheumasearch is a foundation that was created in 2007. Its name combines two contractions of the terms Rheumatology and Research. Its objective is to support clinical and fundamental research carried out in the Rheumatology Departments of the University Hospitals in Geneva and the Rheumatology Laboratory of the Genevan Faculty of Medicine. The Rheumasearch Foundation, which has been recognised as a public utility foundation and is equipped with a scientific committee of internationally-renowned experts, supports researchers by funding their expenses, training costs and purchase of materials.
Sensitive to this useful cause, Vacheron Constantin has decided to provide financial support to the Rheumasearch Foundation for its research projects in rheumatology. The men and women employed by Vacheron Constantin, the oldest watch Manufacture in the world to have continued its activities without interruption since 1755, have always concentrated on the creation and consolidation of a tradition of excellence that is at once technical and aesthetic. Their timepieces feature hand-crafted finishes of exceptional quality, which bear incontestable witness to this.
Vacheron Constantin nurtures this unaltered hand-crafted approach on a daily basis, emphasising the essential role of the craftsman’s touch, the experience of an “expert hand” and the expertise and wisdom of man, whether he be a watchmaker, designer, engineer, engraver or enameller. Thanks to these craftsmen, the finest Genevan watchmaking traditions are perpetuated within the company, from generation to generation.
This essential transmission of expertise is sustained by Vacheron Constantin and accompanied by the brand’s values relating to solidarity and humanism. It is in this perspective that the Vacheron Constantin Manufacture has chosen to support the Rheumasearch Foundation, in order to prevent infectious rheumatismal diseases that could affect, to varying degrees, its employees and, in particular, its numerous watchmakers and craftsmen.
