2006 - Vacheron Constantin Hosts Metiers d’Art at Sotheby’s in New York
Vacheron Constantin hosted “Métiers d’Art”, a unique watchmaking exhibition held over four days at Sotheby’s Auction House, from December 4-7, 2006. This exhibition marked the first time ever that the esteemed watchmaker took its manufacture to the United States. Four of Vacheron Constantin’s top watchmakers and craftmen flew from Geneva to New York to meet the public, VIP clients, and friends of the brand to show off the traditions that have positioned the manufacture at the top of the watchmaking excellence.
Juan Carlos Torres, CEO of Vacheron Constantin, Julien Tornare, President of Vacheron Constantin North America, and Christian Selmoni, Director of Vacheron Constantin Marketing Product, hosted a series of lectures on the art of Vacheron Constantin watchmaking, which were held over dinner or lunch. Dominique Bernaz, Director of the “Maison” Vacheron Constantin in Geneva, was also on hand to authenticate Vacheron Constantin timepieces for those that attended the exhibition. Each day featured a prestigious media partner, including the luxury magazine Robb Report, the watch trade magazine Watch Time, and the international newspaper The Wall Street Journal.
The traditional watchmaking skills and decorative arts displayed included enameling, guilloche, master watchmaking, and engraving. All of the techniques have been employed by Vacheron Constantin for centuries. Hundreds of watchmaking enthusiasts from the greater New York area, as well as California, Florida, and Canada, came to view the exhibition and meet the watchmakers who spend their lives creating miniature pieces of art.
